Reports: One Dies in Abkhaz Clash

One Georgian policeman died and another was injured after a group of armed men attacked a police checkpoint in the Georgian village of Ganmukhuri in the Abkhaz conflict zone early on January 5, Tbilisi-based Rustavi 2 and Mze television stations reported.

This is the latest in a series of incidents that have takent place in the Abkhaz conflict zone in less than two weeks.

Two influential Abkhaz warlords who served in the Abkhaz police in the Gali district were killed in late December, which was followed by the deployment of Abkhaz militia groups in this Georgian-populated district of the breakaway region.
