Blast Kills Abkhaz Warlord in Gali

Otar Turnanba, a deputy chief of the Abkhaz police in the Gali district, died after his vehicle hit a land mine on December 25, Abkhaz news agency Apsnipress reported.

Two other Abkhaz police officers, also in the vehicle, were injured, according to the report.

Breakaway Abkhaz Interior Minister Otar Khetsia described the incident as a terrorist act masterminded by the Georgian special services, according to the Apsnipress.

Turnanba was known as a local warlord frequently accused by the Georgian side of masterminding raids against the Georgian villages of the Gali district.
