Gas Cut Off in Towns for Nonpayment
Itera, a company distributing gas to the Georgian regions, has cut the gas supply to Zestaponi in western Georgia and Dedoplistskaro in the east of the country for nonpayment of GEL 162 thousand for consumed gas.
The company?s Tbilisi office has warned that the gas supply to Marneuli, Khashuri, Sighnagi and Telavi will be suspended as well if debt totaling up to GEL 570 000 is not repaid by December 26.
But later on December 22 Itera said it will not cut gas supplies to its consumers during the New Year holiday.
Officials from the Tbilisi office of the Russian gas company Itera said the suspension of gas supplies to the Georgian towns has nothing to do with politics and is motivated purely by commercial reasons, adding that the gas supply will be restored as soon as the debt is paid.
