Abkhaz Opposition Calls to Form New Government
The influential Forum of Abkhaz People?s Unity (FAPU), which includes three opposition parties and nine public movements, hailed Abkhaz leader Sergey Bagapsh?s foreign policy but called on him to sack the current government in order to tackle internal problems, Apsnipress news agency reported.
?[Sergey Bagapsh] is undertaking all the necessary measures to achieve international recognition of Abkhazia? and the enhancement of economic cooperation with the Russian regions,? FAPU said in a statement issued after a session it held in Sokhumi on November 29.
The statement went on to say that ?We also express dissatisfaction towards the government of Abkhazia because of its destructive role and failure to elaborate an action plan to tackle issues in various fields of the state?s activities, which has led to a crisis and decrease of prestige [of the government]. We suggest to the President to form a new government that will be able to effectively solve existing problems.?
The FAPU, which includes Vice-President of breakaway Abkhazia Raul Khajimba as a member, has been criticizing the government for carrying out a non-transparent privatization process.
