Parliament to Discuss Resolution on Quitting CIS
The Georgian Parliament is expected to discuss a draft resolution proposed by opposition lawmakers calling for Georgia?s withdrawal from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) later on Friday.
MP Kakha Kukava of the opposition Conservative Party told Civil Georgia on November 10 that during consultations with Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze on Thursday, the latter reiterated that the issue will be discussed at the parliamentary session on Friday.
The Parliament is most likely to reject the draft resolution proposed by the Democrat Front faction, which unites MPs from the Republican and Conservative opposition parties. Lawmakers from the ruling National Party say that ?more appropriate timing? is needed to make a decision about withdrawal from the CIS.
