MFA Says Bezhuashvili ‘Misquoted’ on Russia
Foreign Minister Gela Bezhuashvili never said that Tbilisi expects military aggression from the Russian Federation, the Georgian Foreign Ministry said on November 9.
Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported on November 7 quoting Bezhuashvili: “This threat exists definitely… The threat of attack exists and I am here in Paris and visiting other European countries as well in order to jointly explain to Russia that it will be a foolish step.”
But the Georgian Foreign Ministry said that the news agency has misquoted Bezhuashvili.
“The Minister [Bezhuashvili] said while answering a question whether he rules out or not a possible aggression by Russia, that he can not rule out anything and will discussed the issue with colleagues during the visit,” the Georgian Foreign Ministry said in an information note.
“The irresponsible interpretation [of Bezhuashvili’s comments] reported by the news agency is absolutely inadmissible and does not help the normalization of relations between the two countries,” the Foreign Ministry said.
