Abkhaz PM: Situation in Kodori Affects Abkhaz Economy
Prime Minister of breakaway Abkhazia Alexander Ankvab said on November 8 that the situation in the Kodori Gorge has had a negative influence on the economy of the breakaway region, Apsnypress news agency reported.
?Because of the Kodori crisis, it became necessary to increase financing for the Defense Ministry… But, nobody should believe that they can suffocate us economically by forcing us to spend additional funds on defense,? Abkhaz Prime Minister said.
He also noted that the complicated situation in Kodori Gorge in late July, when the Georgian authorities carried out an anti-criminal operation there, had a negative influence on tourism as well.
?We have not calculated the exact loss yet, but according to the preliminary data the holiday period, in spite of the instability in a mountainous part of Abkhazia, was only a bit worse than last year,? Ankvab added.
