Russian MIA: Nalchik Attack linked to “Foreign Special Services”

Deputy Interior Minister of Russia Arkady Edelev is quoted by RIA “Novosti” saying that Anzor Astemirov, one of the organizers of the militant attack on a city of Nalchik (Russia) in October 2005, is linked with special services of “certain foreign countries.”

“I can say clearly that those like Astemirov are linked to the special services of certain countries that breed the intentions of blitzkriegs in South Ossetia, Abkhazia and Trans-Caucasus, and the escalation of military confrontation on our territory, aimed at channeling a part of militants from Iraq to the Russian territory,” Edelev reportedly said on a press conference in Nalchik.

Edelev’s remarks transparently hint at the United States, a country that Russian officials have recently and repeatedly accused of pushing Georgian authorities towards a military solution for the conflicts in Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
