Resolution on Peacekeepers Close to Finalization
Currently there are four versions of the draft resolution on Russian peacekeeping troops stationed in the Abkhaz conflict zone, sources in the Parliament said on July 17.
All four drafts share a provisions envisaging instructing the government to pull out Russian peacekeepers from Abkhazia, but the resolution will not set any deadline or timeframe to the executive authorities to implement the demand.
Final version of the resolution is expected to be agreed upon during a meeting between the parliamentary majority leaders and President Saakashvili later on July 17. The draft resolution is most likely to be submitted to the Parliament for consideration on July 18.
In February, 2006 the Parliament passed a resolution demanding peacekeepers? pullout from South Ossetia, but the document set no timeframe or deadline to the government to implement provisions of the resolution.
