Georgian Interior, State Ministers Visit Tskhinvali for Talks
Georgian Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili and State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues Giorgi Khaindrava arrived in the breakaway South Ossetian capital Tskhinvali on June 22.
Vano Merabishvili is holding talks with Interior Minister of breakaway South Ossetia Mikhail Mindzaev, which is held in Tskhinvali in frames of the quadripartite negotiating body Joint Control Commission (JCC).
In the beginning of talks the South Ossetian side hailed this meeting between Merabishvili and Mindzaev.
?I think that our law enforcement agencies will have no problems If there are top-level contacts between the [Georgian and Ossetian] law enforcers? I want to say that this day should become a decisive day for finding mutual steps for solving Georgian-Ossetian conflict,? Boris Chochiev, the South Ossetian chief negotiator and deputy prime minister of the breakaway region, said.
?Today?s meeting is a confirmation of the fact that a political will exists to solve current problems in the conflict zone,? Giorgi Khaindrava said.
Russian Foreign Ministry?s special envoy Yuri Popov and official from the Russian Interior Ministry Alexander Rostovtsev; deputy chief of administration of Russia?s North Ossetian Republic Murat Tkhostov and Deputy Interior Minister of North Ossetia Soslan Sikoev are also participating in the talks, which are attended by representatives from the OSCE.
