The South Ossetian side has received a confirmation from the Georgian Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili to meet breakaway region’s Interior Minister Mikhail Mindzaev, the South Ossetian Press and Information Committee (PIC) reported on June 22.
“I hope this meeting on June 22 will help to defuse tensions,” Mindzaev said, according to the PIC.
He also said that the meeting will take place in the South Ossetian capital Tskhinvali in frames of the quadripartite Joint Control Commission (JCC).
Cochairmen of the JCC – Georgian State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues Giorgi Khaindrava; breakaway South Ossetian deputy prime minister Boris Chochiev, Russian Foreign Ministry’s special envoy Yuri Popov and deputy chief of administration of Russia’s North Ossetian Republic Murat Tkhostov – will gather in Tskhinvali on June 22 to discuss the current situation in the conflict zone and results of the June 14 donors’ conference in Brussels.
The Interior Minister of breakaway South Ossetia also said that he will discuss, as he put it, “illegal” repositioning of the Georgian police posts in the conflict zone during the meeting with the Georgian Interior Minister.
