Kazakhstan Joins BTC Pipeline

Kazakhstan has officially joined the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline after the Kazakh and Azeri Presidents Nursultan Nazarbayev and Ilham Aliyev signed an agreement in Almaty on June 16, Turan, Itar-Tass, Interfax news agencies reported.


Kazakhstan has pledged to transport via BTC 7,5 tones of oil annually at the initial phase.


The first cargo of oil transported through the BTC pipeline was exported from the Ceyhan marine terminal on the Turkish Mediterranean coast on June 4.


An official inaugural ceremony of the BTC is planned in Turkey for July 13. President Saakashvili is also expected to participate in the ceremony.
