Kazakhstan Plans to Join BTC in June
Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said his country is ready to pump oil to western markets through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline and a relevant agreement will be signed in June, RIA Novosti news agency reported on June 8.
?This month we will sign an agreement with the government of Azerbaijan over joining Kazakhstan to the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline,? Nazarbayev said while addressing an investment summit in Almaty on June 8.
He said that the agreement will be signed on the sidelines of a summit of the Council on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia, scheduled for June 17 in Kazakhstan.
Kazakhstan can reportable ship up to 30 million tons of oil yearly through the BTC.
In a letter sent to his Azeri counterpart, U.S. President George W. Bush urged Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan to agree on terms to ship Kazakh oil through the BTC. The letter was read out at an oil and gas conference in Baku on June 6.
