Lavrov Comments on Ukraine, Georgia’s NATO Accession

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on June 7 that the membership of Georgia and Ukraine into NATO would trigger “a colossal geopolitical shift,” the RIA Novosti and Interfax news agencies reported.

“We are considering all the possible consequences of such a step in terms of Russia’s national interests in the field of security, as well as our economic interests and the interests of the mutual relations with these countries,” Lavrov said while addressing Russian MPs from the lower house of the Parliament.
