State Minister Meets Russian Ambassador over S.Ossetia

Georgian State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues Giorgi Khaindrava met with Russian Ambassador in Tbilisi Vladimir Chkhikvishvili on June 1 to discuss the recent development in breakaway South Ossetia.

“During the meeting the Russian diplomat only informed me about the position of the Russian Foreign Ministry and I tried to convince him that this position was not correct,” Khaindrava told reporters after the meeting.

Georgia and Russia have exchanged mutual accusations over the rotation of Russian peacekeepers in the South Ossetian conflict zone.

Tbilisi claims that Russia has deployed extra troops there and some Georgian parliamentarians have described this as “an occupation of part of Georgia’s territory.” But the Russian side denied these accusations and blamed Tbilisi of attempting to provoke a conformation in the conflict zone.
