S.Ossetian Leader Visits Moscow

Visiting South Ossetian leader Eduard Kokoity reiterated in Moscow on June 2 that the unrecognized republic’s goal is to joint Russia’s North Ossetian Republic.

Speaking at a news conference in the office of the Interfax news agency, Kokoity also said South Ossetia “is actually already part of the Russian Federation” as about 95% of population holds Russian passports.

He said that the Russian peacekeepers will not leave the conflict zone even if Georgia demands it.

Kokoity also said that there is no need to hold a referendum on South Ossetia’s independence as a similar referendum has already been held in early 90s.
