Russia Denies Sending Extra Troops to South Ossetia

Russia denied Georgia’s accusations about sending at least 500 extra troops to breakaway South Ossetia under the pretext of a rotation of peacekeepers there.

“500 Russian servicemen were sent to South Ossetia as part of a planned rotation in South Ossetia. They will replace there those peacekeepers who have been serving there for six months. No other troops from Russia have been sent and will not be sent there,” Viacheslav Sendov, the Russian Defense Ministry spokesman, told Interfax.
