S.Ossetia Wants Top-Level Talks
The authorities of breakaway South Ossetia on May 29 called for high-level talks between the Georgian, South Ossetian and Russian leadership with participation of OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Belgian Foreign Minister Karel De Gucht, the South Ossetian Press and Information Committee reported.
The South Ossetian side said that a meeting between the top leadership of the sides should be used to sign an agreement on security guarantees and non-resumption of hostilities.
The Georgian side is against this document, as Tbilisi considers its peace plan over South Ossetian conflict resolution as enough of a security guarantee.
The South Ossetian side hailed “the OSCE’s role in prevention further escalation of violence against the peaceful population during the illegal actions of the Georgian law enforcement agencies on May 27” when dozens of Ossetian civilians were arrested under the pretext of violating Georgian visa requirements.
“We are sure that during a session of the Permanent Council the OSCE will give a principled assessment to the actions undertaken by the Georgian law enforcement agencies,” reads the statement issued by the breakaway South Ossetian authorities.
