Museum of Soviet Repression Opens in Tbilisi
President Saakashvili inaugurated on May 26 the Museum of Soviet Occupation exhibiting documents testifying repression of Soviet regime and chronicling the fate of thousands of Georgians who became victims of the regime.
Georgia announced its independence from the Russian empire on May 26, 1918 following the Bolshevik revolution, but as a result of Bolshevik troops’ invasion three years later Georgia became part of the Soviet Union.
