Saakashvili Visits Kiev for GUAM Summit
Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili left for Ukraine to participate in a summit of the heads of the GUAM member states – Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova – in Kiev on May 22-23.
It is expected that an informal grouping of Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova will turn into a formal international organization as a result of this summit, according to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.
The headquarters of the new organization will be located in Kiev.
It is also expected that during the visit President Saakashvili will Tbilisi’s possible decision to withdraw from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) with his counterparts.
