Russian Senators Visit Abkhazia
A group of Russian senators, led by Victor Ozerov, the Chairman of the Defense Committee of Council of Federation of Russia, visited Abkhazia, the Apsnipress news agency reported.
The Russian senators met with Prime Minister of breakaway region Aleksander Ankvab and chief of the Russian peacekeeping troops Sergey Chaban on May 16 to get acquainted with the peacekeeping operation in the region, which is being carried out under the aegis of Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
“The [Russian] peacekeeping troops are the guarantors of peace and stability in Abkhazia,” Aleksander Ankvab was quoted by Apsnipress.
According to Apsnipress, Senator Ozerov said that he will visit Paris on May 25 to attend a session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly where the issue related with the Russian peacekeeping operation in Abkhazia will be pushed for discussion.
