Eight Wine Factories Impounded in Western Georgia
The Financial Police impounded eight wine producing factories in the western Georgian region of Imereti for allegedly producing falsified wines, officials said on May 10.
Speaking at a news briefing on May 10, Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli said that the authorities will also intensify their fight against those falsified wines which are being sold in foreign countries under the name of “Georgian wine.”
“First of all, this should occur in Ukraine, Kazakhstan, the Baltic states and other countries. We have also offered the Russian side to struggle jointly against falsified Georgian wine. It should be noted that falsified wine produced in Russia is still being sold there under the name of “Georgian wine.” However, instead of fighting against falsified wines, Russia banned the import of Georgian and Moldovan wines,” the Prime Minister said.
