Portions of Tax Code Amendments Approved

The Georgian Parliament approved portions of the proposed amendments to the tax code on April 28.

According to the approved amendments, an excise on imported tobacco will be reduced from the current 90 (49.4 cents) to 60 Tetri (32.9 cents), while on locally produced tobacco ? from 70 (38.4 cents) to 40 Tetri (21.9 cents). An excise on imported non-filter cigarette will be reduced from 25 to 15 Tetri and on locally produced non-filter cigarette ? from 20 to 10 Tetri.
 
VAT exemptions will also be provided for gas imported solely for generating electricity, according to the approved amendments.
