Opposition MPs Meet Foreign Diplomats
A group of opposition parliamentarians met with foreign diplomats and representatives of international organizations accredited in Georgia on April 25 and briefed them about the reasons behind their decision to boycott parliamentary sessions.
Opposition lawmakers from the New Rights, Industrialist and Democratic Front (uniting MPs from Republican and Conservative parties) parliamentary factions have been boycotting parliamentary sessions since March 31 and are demanding the resignation of Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili; transparent voter lists; the creation of new election administrations; direct elections of city mayors; and improvement of the business climate.
“We have requested that the international organizations intervene and put pressure on the Georgian authorities over the holding of fair elections and the protection of human rights,” MP Kakha Kukava of the Democratic Front said on April 25.
