Flooding Hits Western Georgia

Over 100 houses in the village of Chkhori, in the western region of Samegrelo, were flooded after the Enguri river breeched its banks overnight on April 17, causing no casualties, Georgian media sources have reported.

According to Rustavi 2 television, the level of the Enguri river rose after the reservoir at the Engurhesi Hydroelectric Station was emptied because of rehabilitation works at the plant. Heavy rains further contributed to the flood, reports say.

Flooding was also reported in the Khoni District of the Imereti Region, where the Tskhenistskali river has damaged farmlands, according to the InterPressNews agency.
