South Ossetia May Postpone Presidential Polls

The South Ossetian council of elders has called for the postponement of presidential elections in the breakaway region and the extension of Eduard Kokoity?s presidential term, the South Ossetian Press and Information Committee reported on April 14.

Presidential elections in the unrecognized South Ossetian republic are scheduled for this November.

The South Ossetian council of elders, which is a consulting body created at the President?s administration, cited ?the tense foreign political situation? and the fact that the Georgian side ?is plainning provocations? ahead of the elections as the reason behind their initiative.
