Georgian Wine Producers Visit Moscow
On April 11 representatives of Georgian wine producing companies left for Moscow to discuss Russia’s ban on imports of Georgian wine and spirits with the Russian side.
Marketing and Sales Director of Georgia’s leading wine producing company GWS Levan Koberidze said before departing that the Georgian delegation will meet with their Russian partners engaged in distributing Georgian wines in Russia and will try to regain access to the Russian wine market.
On March 27 Russia’s Chief Sanitary Inspector stopped issuing “sanitary-epidemiological conclusions” for Georgian and Moldovan wines, citing “violation of requirements of state sanitary-epidemiological rules and norms.”
On April 7 the Georgian Foreign Ministry sent a note to the Russian side urging it to hold consultations over the issue of exporting wine, cognac and sparkling wine, as well as vegetable products, to the Russian Federation, in compliance with article 16 of the Agreement on Free Trade between the two countries.
