Human Rights Group Against Extradition of Azeri Activist

The Georgian Human Rights Information and Documentation Center (HRIDC), a human rights watchdog organization, called on the Georgian authorities on April 7 to refrain from extraditing Azer Ramizoglu to the Azeri authorities.

Azer Ramizoglu, who chairs the Baku-based Caucasus Center for Protection of Conscience and Religion, was arrested in Tbilisi on March 31 after a request was sent by the Azeri authorities for Ramizaglu’s alleged participation in unrest that took place on the streets of Baku after the October, 2003 presidential elections in Azerbaijan.

The HRIDC claims that in Azerbaijan Azer Ramizoglu faces prosecution for his political views and his his extradition is therefore inadmissible.
