President’s Press Official Arrested on Spy Charges
Simon Kiladze, an employee of the President’s press office, was arrested on March 28 and accused of spying and passing information to the special services one unnamed foreign country, Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili said on Tuesday.
Merabishvili declined to name which country’s special services the suspect was cooperating with.
Simon Kiladze, 48, was reportedly in charge of monitoring the foreign press at the Georgian President’s press office.
“Since 2004 Kiladze has been systematically providing a foreign country’s special services with secret information about the President, heads of the government and Parliament, official delegation’s foreign visits and meetings and issues discussed at those meetings… According to our information, Kiladze has received at least USD 20,000 during this period,” Vano Merabishvili said.
