Georgia Rotates Troops in Iraq
550 servicemen from the 22nd Light Infantry Battalion of the Kutaisi Second Brigade left for Iraq on March 22 to become part of the coalition forces stationed there.
The Georgian servicemen will rotate the 21st Infantry Battalion of the Georgian Defense Ministry and stay in Iraq for the next six months.
Currently, there are more than 850 Georgian troops stationed in Iraq making Georgia one of the most significant contributors to the coalition forces in terms of a country’s per capita troop deployment.
The 22nd Battalion will perform peacekeeping mission in the capital Baghdad.
