Saakashvili: Ideological War Waged Against Georgia
President Saakashvili said on March 9 that “influential forces” wage an “ideological war” against Georgia in order to discredit the country.
“Ideological war – there is nothing else you can call it – is underway against Georgia. Very influential, very rich, very important forces are engaged in discrediting Georgia and in portraying Georgia as unstable, dangerous, unreliable, non-European, uncivilized, uncultured country. We are European, cultural, highly civilized country with great future,” Saakashvili said.
The Georgian President was speaking at a form the Future of the Community of Democratic Choice (CDC), which is held in Tbilisi on March 9-10 with participation of officials and experts from the European Union, US, Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia and Turkey.
President Saakashvili said in his speech that an initiative of Georgia and Ukraine to form the Community of Democratic Choice is gaining momentum.
“During our first meeting in Borjomi there were only two of us – me and President [of Ukraine Victor] Yushchenko. Then in Kiev more Presidents arrived and now the Swedish Prime Minister announced that his country is ready to join to this democratic commonwealth of the Baltic-Black Sea states. So our – Georgian and Ukrainian – initiative becomes more and more important. And arrival of these experts and analysts [at the Tbilisi forum] is a demonstration that we are preparing broader format for this organization [CDC]”
He also said that Georgia has become “one of the most important actors in international politics.”
