MFA Condemns Shooting in Gali

The Georgian Foreign Ministry expressed protest regarding the armed attack in the Gali district of breakaway Abkhazia on March 8.
 
According to the Georgian Foreign Ministry, an unknown armed group opened fire at a vehicle moving in the village of Saberio, Gali District. The attack killed all the four passengers: two Abkhazians and two Georgians, of which one was a child.

“This fact indicates clearly that the so-called militia of the local separatist government and the Russian peacekeeping contingent stationed in the region are in no position to control the criminal situation in the region, which, in many cases, results in the loss of innocent lives among the peaceful population,” the statement issued by the Georgian Foreign Ministry on March 8 reads.
 
The Abkhaz side blamed Georgian criminal groups for this attack, while some reports indicated that the clash occurred between the two conflicting criminal gangs operating across the administrative border of breakaway Abkhazia.
