Opposition Plans Joint Efforts Against Government’s Policies

the opposition New Rights, Conservative, Republican and Labor parties are conducting talks over joint efforts to confront the government’s policies in various fields.

Leaders of the four opposition parties are holding talks in the office of the Labor Party on March 3. Before the meeting, the leaders stated that pressing the government over the murder of Sandro Girgvliani and regulations for the outdoor market sellers will top the agenda of their joint activities.

Leader of the Labor Party Shalva Natelashvili told reporters that a protest rally led by the opposition parties is planned for March 9 in Tbilisi to demand postponement of enforcement of the law, which obliges outdoor sellers to equip their stores with cash registers. Similar protest rallies were already held on February 28 and March 1 in Tbilisi and in a number of other towns throughout the country.

“During the [March 9] rally we will also push more important issues, like the investigation of the murder case of [Sandro] Girgvliani, as well as other problematic issues accumulated recently,” leader of the Conservatives party Koba Davitashvili said.

Leader of the Republican Party Davit Usupashvili said that “although we did not participate in the previous rallies [over the cash registers], we support them. We [opposition parties] should cooperate and hold a dialogue and demonstrate to the authorities that the political parties are capable of cooperating.”
