Gali-Zugdidi Bus Traffic Launched
Free movement of bus traffic was launched on March 1 between the western Georgian town of Zugdidi, which is at the administrative border of the breakaway region, and the Gali district of Abkhazia, which is predominately populated by ethnic Georgians.
The UN Observer Mission in Georgia (UNOMIG) Trust Fund is financing the project for the initial period. The German Government has expressed its readiness to financially contribute to ensure the project’s continuance in the future, the UNOMIG reported.
UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative to Georgia Heidi Tagliavini was among the first passengers on the bus, which will transport passengers from Gali to Zugdidi and vice versa once every half-hour.
