New CEC Chairman Appointed

The Parliament approved on February 17 Guram Chalagashvili as a new Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC).


Chalagashvili, who was nominated for this position by President Saakashvili, previously served as the secretary of CEC.


The opposition parliamentarians criticized Chalagashvili as “a person controlled” by the authorities.
