Georgia Seizes Vehicles of JPKF

The Georgian Military Police detained on February 13 two vehicles of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces (JPKF) stationed in the South Ossetian conflict zone.

Aleksandre Sukhitashvili, chief of the Military Police, cited a lack of sufficient papers as the reason behind the seizure of the vehicles.

According to the South Ossetian Press and Information Committee, which has described the incident as “one more provocation,” vehicles belonging to the Ossetian peacekeeping battalion were heading towards the village of Tsinagari, in the Akhalgori (known as Leningori in S.Ossetia) district, to supply food products to the JPKF checkpoint located there.

Sukhitashvili said that the vehicles were carrying 200 kg of salt. “This is very suspicious; why is a unit which amounts to only 20 servicemen in need of 200 kilograms of salt?” he said.

The vehicles were brought to Gori by the Georgian Military Police.
