Russian MPs to Visit Georgia

A group of Russian parliamentarians from the State Duma, the lower house of the Russian parliament, will pay a three-day visit to Georgia on February 14 to discuss the situation in the South Ossetian conflict zone, news agency RIA Novosti reported.

During the visit the Russian MPs will hold talks with the Chairmen of the Parliamentary Committees for Defense and Security and Foreign Affairs, the Deputy Foreign Minister and the State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues.

On February 15 the Russian parliamentarians will travel to breakaway South Ossetia to study the situation in the conflict zone concerning the presence of Russian peacekeepers there.

Last week Boris Gryzlov, the speaker of the State Duma, accused Georgia of “searching for reasons to trigger tensions in South Ossetia.”
