Tbilisi Rejects Kokoity’s Proposal for Talks with Saakashvili

Georgian State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues Giorgi Khaindrava rejected an initiative by South Ossetian leader Eduard Kokoity, who expressed his readiness to meet with Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili.

“The Georgian side has offered fourfold to hold talks between Eduard Kokoity and Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli; however, each time Tskhinvali rejected this proposal. Therefore, Tbilisi does not want to participate in a PR campaign by the de facto South Ossetian leader,” Khaindrava told Interfax news agency on February 7.

Eduard Kokoity said at a news briefing in Moscow on February 7 that he was ready to meet with Saakashvili “anywhere, except Tbilisi.”
