Parliament Expected to Vote on Peacekeepers on February 15
Parliament will continue holding hearings over the performance of the Russian peacekeepers stationed in the South Ossetian conflict zone next week, senior parliamentarians said after the Prime Minister and State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues briefed the MPs about the peace process behind closed doors on February 7.
Influential MP Giga Bokeria said after the session of the Parliamentary Bureau that additional hearings will be held on February 13 at a joint session of parliamentary committees of Defense and Security and Foreign Affairs.
During this later session State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues Giorgi Khaindrava will present detailed information regarding the performance of Russian peacekeepers in South Ossetia, MP Bokeria said.
“And if there is no radical improvement in the peacekeepers’ performance – we do not expect this will happen – the Parliament will adopt a new resolution on February 15 instructing the government to provide for the withdrawal of the Russian peacekeepers,” MP Bokeria said.
