“Industrialists” to Set up New Parliamentary Faction

Leader of the opposition Industrialists party MP Zurab Tkemaladze said on February 2 that his party plans to split from a coalition with another opposition New Rights party and set up a new independent faction.

He said that this is a tactical decision and aims at further “strengthening the parliamentary opposition.”

“This [setting up of a new parliamentary faction] means gaining additional seats in the [parliamentary] bureau, committees and commissions,” MP Zurab Tkemaladze said.

He also said that setting up a new faction does not mean that the election bloc Rightist Opposition–Industrialists, uniting New Rights and Industrialists parties, will fall apart.

Currently MPs from the New Rights and Industrialists parties are united in one parliamentary faction – the Rightist Opposition,- which consists of 17 members. 7 MPs in this faction are from the Industrialists party.

At group of at least 10 MPs is necessary to officially set up a parliamentary faction. Apparently, several majoritarian MPs will join this new group in order to formally create a parliamentary faction.
