Georgian PM, Ukrainian Security Chief Discuss Energy Security
Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli and visiting Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Anatoly Kinakh discussed the situation in the energy sectors of the two countries.
“We have discussed the energy security issue, which has recently become very important for Georgia, Ukraine and all of Europe. We have coordinated our positions once again, while a detailed discussion of this issue will take place in mid-March in Georgia, at a meeting of GUAM [grouping of Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Moldova] Foreign and Energy Ministers in Tbilisi,” the Georgian Prime Minister told reporters after talks with Anatoly Kinakh on January 31.
Anatoly Kinakh said that Georgia and Ukraine will consolidate their efforts to diversify energy supplies.
“Of course we will do our best to reduce the unilateral economic-political dependence of our states on the deliveries of energy resources from one region. All the issues, including those regarding a resolution of conflicts and cooperation should be settled only on the basis of equal, mutually beneficial partnership, without double standards, without any attempts at political or economic pressure,” Anatoly Kinakh said.
