EU-South Caucasus Relations Discussed in Brussels

The European Union (EU) hosted Ministerial Troika Meetings with Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan on Tuesday, the EU Council reported on December 13.

The meetings were chaired by Javier Solana, High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy. The EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus, Ambassador Heikki Talvitie and the UK Special Representative for the South Caucasus, Sir Brian Fall, also took part in the meetings. The Georgian delegation was led by Foreign Minister Gela Bezhuashvili.

?The Ministerial Troika Meetings welcomed the start of technical consultations with the three countries on the individual Action Plans and the constructive engagement of all the parties in concluding the consultations on the three Action Plans as rapidly as possible,? a press release issued by the EU Council reads.

?These documents will provide a good framework for Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia to pursue the political and economic reforms in order to foster a closer relationship with the EU,? the press release adds.

The Ministerial Troika Meetings also provided a useful forum to discuss issues of mutual interest, including political and economic reforms in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia, as well as the conflicts in the South Caucasus, and regional stability, the EU Council reported.
