Judges Say they are Under Pressure

Georgian Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze asked the Parliamentary Committees for Legal Issues and Human Rights on November 21 to probe into the alleged cases of pressure on judges.

Burjanadze’s instruction follows after the opposition parliamentary faction Democratic Front appealed the Parliamentary Chairperson to consider statements of Judge Tamaz Iliashvili, who claims that authorities tried to pressure on him while taking decisions.

In an other case, three judges of the Supreme Court – Nino Gvenetadze, Davit Sulakvelidze and Merab Turava, convened a press conference on November 21 and accused Chairman of the Supreme Court Kote Kublashvili, as well as Chairman of Justice Council Valery Tsertsvadze of pressuring Judges in both Supreme and City Courts.
