MoD Declines Comment on Reported Robbery at Tank Repair Factory
The Georgian Ministry of Defense has declined to comment on media reports about a robbery case which allegedly took place in the Armor Tank Repair Factory in Tbilisi overnight on October 17-18.
The Georgian weekly Kviris Palitra reported on October 24 that parts – mainly lights and aluminium hoods – from dozens of armored vehicles were stolen from the Factory after almost 300 tanks, armored combat vehicles and armored personnel carriers were brought to the factory, “presumably for repair.” The factory was handed over to the Georgian Defense Ministry by the Russian side this June.
The paper says that in a recent separate incident, battle-tank machineguns and portable radio stations were stolen from the Vaziani military base.
