Two Injured after Shooting in South Ossetia

Two Georgian civilians were wounded after a group of unknown gunman entered the Georgian village of Berula in the South Ossetian conflict zone and opened random fire late on October 2, Georgian media sources reported.

The Georgian police arrested two persons who are suspected in this attack, while several other suspects reportedly escaped. Police said that the detainees are ethnic Ossetians who were drunk at the time of the incident.

The South Ossetian side confirmed the fact that two Ossetians were arrested and identified them as ?employees of one of the South Ossetian law enforcement agencies.? But the South Ossetian side reported a different interpretation of the case.

?The Georgian police tried to illegally arrest the employees of one of the South Ossetian law enforcement agencies while they were passing through the Georgian village of Eredvi. Two Georgian policemen were wounded as a result of a shootout. Two citizens of the South Ossetian Republic were arrested, others were able to escape,? the South Ossetian Press and Information Committee reported on October 3.
