Georgia Calls on OSCE to Probe into Tskhinvali Shelling
In a statement issued on September 21 President Mikheil Saakashvili urged the OSCE to conduct ?a thorough and detailed investigation? of the incident involving a mortar attack on South Ossetian capital Tskhinvali on September 20, which caused injury to about ten people.
Saakashvili also instructed the local Georgian military and the Interior Ministry officials to fully cooperate with the OSCE and ?to take all the necessary measures to find out the whole truth and to punish those responsible; to create mechanisms for preventing any possible confrontations.?
He also ordered the health services to instantly provide the wounded with all necessary medical assistance, according to the President?s press office.
Saakashvili called on the authorities in breakaway South Ossetia to resume peace talks immediately ?without any preconditions.?
South Ossetian leader Eduard Kokoity said South Ossetian side will not participate in the Joint Control Commission (JCC), until official Tbilisi apologizes for shelling Tskhinvali.
