MPs Draft a Resolution on Russian Peacekeepers
The Parliamentary Committee for Foreign Relations has drafted an initial version of the resolution on the role and activities of the Russian peacekeeping troops stationed in the Abkhaz and South Ossetian conflict zones, as instructed by the Parliamentary Chairperson.
The resolution will not include a provision instructing the government to ensure withdrawal of the Russian peacekeeping troops from the conflict zones.
The resolution will focus on the cases of granting Russian passports to the residents of the breakaway regions and will condemn appointment of the Russian citizens to the official and military positions in the governments of unrecognized republics.
The Parliamentary Committee for Foreign Relations is preparing the draft resolution through active consultations with the Security Council and the Foreign Ministry.
?This draft resolution should be agreed with the executive authorities in order to make its implementation effective,? Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Foreign Relations Kote Gabashvili said.
