Russia Calls on S.Ossetian, Georgian Sides for Restraint
The Russian Foreign Ministry has called on both the Georgian and South Ossetian sides to excercise restraint in their actions and urged them to continue peace talks to defuse tensions in the conflict zone. A statement comes after a mortar attack on South Ossetian capital Tskhinvali on September 20.
?It is necessary to hold a session [between the] co-chairmen of the JCC [Joint Control Commission] to discuss the current situation and to take appropriate measures,? Russian Foreign Ministry?s spokesman Mikhail Kaminin said in an information note issued on September 21.
He also said that the latest mortar attack on Tskhinvali coincided with celebrations which were under way in South Ossetia to mark the unrecognized republic?s independence day. ?It seems that certain forces were very displeased with these [celebrations],? the Russian Foreign Ministry?s spokesman added.
