Georgian MIA: ‘Russian Officer’ Suspected in Arms Trade Arrested
The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs announced on September 19 that “a high official” from the Tbilisi-based Headquarters of the Russian Troops in the Trans Caucasus (GRVZ) was arrested.
The detainee is suspected in “illegal trade of a large amount of Russian-made ammunition,” according to the Georgian Interior Ministry.
But Col. Vladimir Kuparadze, who is deputy commander of the Headquarters of the Russian Troops in the Trans Caucasus, told RIA Novosti news agency that the person who has been arrested by the Georgian police is not listed among the officers serving in the GRVZ.
“I was told that the arrested person’s name is a Russian officer with the name Temur Grigovashvili. I do not know any one on the list of our personnel with this name,” Col. Kuparadze said.
