Shootout Reported in S.Ossetia
A shootout near the Georgian village of Ergneti, which lies a few kilometers away from the South Ossetian capital Tskhinvali, injured one Ossetian early on September 19, the Georgian media and the South Ossetian side reported.
According to the South Ossetian Press and Information Committee, the southern outskirts of Tskhinvali were shelled from the Georgian villages of Ergneti and Nikozi. The shootings started at 6 am local time and lasted for 30 minutes, according to this report, injuring one man – a Mr. Dudaev.
But the Georgian law enforcers claim that the South Ossetian militias opened fire against the Georgian police checkpoint in Ergneti, describing an incident as ?a provocation.?
The South Ossetian side claims that the incident, which was provoked by the Georigan forces, aimed at ?thwarting celebrations dedicated to the independence day of South Ossetia? on September 19-20.
